Will You Drink on Your Wedding Day?

Wedding days are filled with emotions--usually the best kind (love! Happiness! Joy!), but, despite our best intentions, there's plenty of room for other emotions, too (anxiety! Nervousness! Stress!). When you add alcohol to the mix, you never know what might happen. Allow me to share the story of my friend, Joan...

Joan (whose real name is not even close to Joan) is a very organized, by-the-book kind of person--her wedding and reception were planned out exquisitely. But the morning of her wedding, nerves kicked in. She wasn't used to nerves. So she had a big mimosa to loosen up and relax. And then she had another one.

The wedding was noonish. Around 11, she wasn't nervous anymore. She wasn't drunk, either, thankfully (can you imagine?!), but she was exhausted and had a headache. She was basically hung over before any of the festivities actually began. Joan somehow rallied at the reception and still had a great wedding--but I do know that she conked out as soon as she was in the honeymoon suite.

It could have been worse, of course--we've all heard a few stories about brides (and grooms!) who overdo it on their wedding days. But make no mistake, I'm not finger-wagging here; brides are totally allowed to drink, too! I just think it's always good to have a plan in place.

And that's what I'm being snoopy about--what's your plan? Will you drink on your wedding day? When will you do it? And if you're already married: how did you handle the cocktail question on your wedding day?
