5 Unusual Wedding Venues I'll Bet You've Never Considered

How important is it to you that your wedding venue be unique, creative, one-of-a-kind? It's not necessarily the biggest "must" on every "I do" list, but there are some couples who want to get married in a place that's utterly unforgettable. I'm willing to bet that you never thought about getting married in one of these locations...

A gun shop. Uh, a gun shop? Proving that you can get married just about anywhere in Las Vegas, The Gun Store is now welcoming couples to get married--and they'll even fire off a few celebratory rounds after all is said and done. (Insert "shotgun wedding" joke here; you know everyone else will!)

An igloo. Technically, it's an ice chapel at the Igloo Village at Hotel Kakslauttanean in Finland, and you must take a look at the photos--it looks like the couple is getting married in crystal! A reindeer will pull the happy (chilly?) couple on a sled to the chapel (a reindeer!); post-ceremony, everyone can watch the Aurora Borealis light up the sky.

The gas station. Wait, is this even a for-real venue? For one couple, it sure was. The bride and groom were on their way to get married and stopped for gas when--oops! The police showed up. It turned out the groom was wanted for violating his parole. When the cops found out the two had been en route to the altar, they arranged for a justice of the peace to perform a quick ceremony at pump number three before carting the groom off to jail. It's actually kind of (sort of?) a sweet story--in a weird, going-to-prison, gasoline-smelling sort of way.

A haunted house. I'm cheating with this one, because Kim listed seven ghostly venues awhile back, which you probably remember (because they were so very creepy!). You can add the Mansfield Reformatory in Ohio and Dalston Hall (it appeared on "Most Haunted") to the heebie-jeebie list. Shudder.

On the Titanic. Meredith mentioned this one early last year, but hello--the ship sunk on April 12, 1912, almost exactly 100 years ago. Timeliness! Titanic Museum (note: there's automatic sound at the link) hosts a detailed replica of the ship, down to an exact replica of the Grand Staircase. Costumed waiters will even serve your guests the same dishes that passengers on the doomed ship enjoyed, such as poached salmon with mousseline sauce.

P.S.: I'm thrilled to be talking weddings with you for a few days while Kim is poolside in Florida... which also sounds thrilling, let's be honest.

So how important is it that your wedding venue be creative or unique? What do you think the most important quality a great venue should have?
